October 22, 2011- MHMR Meeting #3

We have gone through two more chapters ending at John 5 today. We had an unexpected visitor. She didn't stay for long, but she hung around long enough to be loved. I brought some donuts, and they served some coffee and muffins. We sang Amazing Grace which they really loved.

Reading through today, we really talked about the rich official and his faith in asking Jesus to heal his son. Chong emphatically and emotionally said we still need modern day medicine to save those who are sick. Fortunately, I'm not in the anti-hospital/doctor/medicine camp. Although the situation does show that the royal official, having access to his day and age medicine, still could not heal his son. He went to Jesus. We went over the power of His word. Jesus spoke, not even being in the presence of the official's son, He would heal him. There's much power in His words.

In the end, we continued talking about their lives and how many of them deal with living there 24/7, with no outdoor activity since they are mandated by law to spend rehab there. It's a difficult life. More reason for them to hear the gospel from us.

October 22, 2011- Thanksgiving Outreach Planning

We spent most of the morning planning for Thanksgiving. Praise God for Pastor Barney Ramirez and Joey Cruse for their willingness to work alongside with one another.

Fort Worth Harvest Church will head out a group in Riverside Drive. The second group will take place in Southside Church of Christ and the third at a house filled with children being taken care of by a grandmother.

Station #1
FWPD will provide breakfast and care in the morning to some elderly and open up the place for other homeless famlies needing care.
- They will need the food prior to 7:00a or the day before. They will open doors, delivering food until noon.
- Volunteers are need to prep the food and deliver it to Southside Church of Christ.

Station #2 and #3
Both stations will start simultaneously at Southside Church of Christ and Riverside Drive. Pastor Barney Ramirez and Phillip will head Riverside and Joey Cruse with Craig Seals will take over operations at Southside.

- Arrival time for all volunteers and food at Southside and Riverside will be 3:00pm
- Setup time for all volunteers and food will be at 3:00pm for both areas
- A setup area will be created in case temperatures drop too low.
- Greeting teams will be setup to build relationship and gather information with all those families that arrive early or if it's too cold.

- Open door time will officially be 5:00pm
- Food will be distributed via buffet style with food already prepared and placed in a room. As people take the food, they will walk on by and eat in the designated rooms. Any youth or other volunteers will either work as waiters or greeters to help those getting food.
- The game will be put up till 6:00pm for those finished with the food early

- Service time will begin at 6:00pm
- Prayer groups, worship team, and pastor need to be ready to sequence their service

- Clothes distribution time will begin promptly at 7:00pm

- Clean up time will happen throughout the entire duration of the time. Main clean up will happen after the clothes distribution from 8:00pm-9:00pm

Station #3
- Food preparation and team volunteers are still being discussed. Stay tuned.

October 8, 2011- Second Meeting with MHMR

I had the wonderful opportunity with sharing the gospel yet again with this group. This time we added a fifth person; Diana. Last time, I forgot Florence. She was this elderly lady that stayed, but she was not coherent at the time. But Diana was a nice addition. The first time I met her she barely gave me a look. I was glad she stayed and read with us.

First, we sang hymns (Holy, Holy, Holy, Be Thou My Vision, and Great is Thy Faithfulness). I found out how rusty I was playing, but they sang anyway! No matter how good or bad we sang the hearts were all harmonized towards God. We went through John 2-3:21 thereafter. I thank Chong for making instant coffee and raspberry muffins. Reading through we talked many issues from consuming alcohol from the miracle of water to wine to talking about Jesus' reactionary response to the moneychangers at the temple. Then we talked about the importance of the meeting with Nicodemus. While Nicodemus needed everything logically explained to him, which Jesus did with the wind and with the Old Testament picture of Moses and the serpent on the rod, the emphasis was that Nicodemus "believe in Him" so that he may have everlasting life.

Many of the guys responded well with what was being taught including someone who handed me their entire pack of cigarettes. You'll see in the picture below. I pray that their faith is genuine and they place all their lives in His hands.

I look forward to having help as well. They want someone to meet weekly with them. I'm still able to do my best bi-weekly. So, if anyone wants to piggy-back with me, I'd welcome the help!
